Recommendation Letter

As a foreigner,  recommendation letter are as important as a certified education and a clean criminal record when applying for a work visa.

The Science and Technology Bureau also has clear regulations on the recommendation letter submitted, which must be a full-time relevant work experience after bachelor or master's graduation, otherwise it will not be approved. There are also strict regulations on the content of the recommendation letter, such as the job position, working time, and signature and seal of recommender or official seal. Get a recommendation letter  from your school before leaving, which will be of great help to your future work.

Employment Separation Certificate

Before leaving the company, foreigners should ask a certificate of separation or work experience from the company. The certificate should indicate the name, passport number, working period (entry and exit time), position, contact information of the company and company seal.

If you transfer to another company or return to China in the future, you will most likely need this separation certificate when applying for a work permit.

In accordance with the provisions of the Labor Contract Law, the company shall issue a separation certificate to the employee.

Work Permit Cancellation Certificate

There are two cases:

1.Your last working day is the same as or very close to the expiration date of the work permit, in this case there is no need to cancel the work permit (because the cancellation of the work permit needs to be submitted several days before termination).

2.There is still a long period of time between your termination and the work permit expiration, in this case, you must cancel the work permit and obtain the work permit cancellation certificate issued by the Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs. If you return to China in a short period and apply for a domestic work permit transfer, this certificate must be provided.

Work permit cancellation materials:

Apply for T Visa

After obtaining Work permit cancellation certificate, you can apply for a passport from the exit and entry department of the Public Security Bureau and obtain a stay visa valid for 30 days.

Non-Criminal Record

Taking Shenzhen as an example, handling of non-criminal record usually requires the presence of the person, if you have left China, the information provided by the agency will be more complicated.

Requirements for foreigners to apply for non-criminal record in Shenzhen:

Foreigners who have resided continuously in Shenzhen for more than 6months.

Personal application material needed on site:

1.Original passport.

2.Temporary residence registration form(Please note that many foreigners do not update these forms each time they renew their residence permit or change their address, resulting in a discontinuous period of residence in the system and the inability to apply for a non-criminal record).

If you have left China, materials needed to for agent:

1.The Chinese visa page of passport and residence period, must be authenticated by Chinese Embassy or consulate.

2.Temporary Accommodation registration form.

3.The power of attorney, must be certified by the Chinese Embassy or consulate.

It is recommended that you apply for two or three notarizations in the notary office after you have completed non-criminal record, because many customers apply for a work visa, study visa or permanent residence in a third country after they leave China, many cases need to provide a notarized non-criminal record or the certification of foreign embassies and consulates in China.

Withdraw Housing Fund

If your company has purchased the housing fund for you, you can also withdraw the balance of all the housing fund before leaving.

As withdrawal social security, you can apply online or offline. It is recommended to apply offline, as online applications do not have the option of departure withdrawal and usually take several months to receive.

Withdraw Social Insurance

Please note that the premise for individuals to apply for social security surrender procedures is that the company has stopped paying your social security. Usually, in the case of social security payment in the current month, the company can only stop paying by operating system in the last day or two of the month, so please plan the time reasonably.

How much money can I claim back?

You can log in to the personal social security system account to inquire, or to the social Security Bureau front window to inquire. Any part paid by an individual can apply for withdrawal.

Handle Individual Income Tax

The taxpayer of personal income tax is an individual in China, so before you leave China, you need to check your tax record in China to confirm whether your employer has fully withheld and paid the corresponding personal income tax for you. If you fail to pay the tax as required, you need to confirm with your employer and pay the tax. Otherwise, there will be late fees and penalties due to tax evasion, and affect your credit status in China, it is recommended to find a professional or institution to calculate and check your personal income tax.

1.If your taxpayer status changes before departure: a resident becomes a non-resident, or a non-resident becomes a resident, resulting in a discrepancy between the tax paid and the tax payable, in this case, you need to go to the tax Bureau for tax refund before departure.

2.If you are a resident taxpayer and you have used the eight eligible subsidy policies to refund the tax in the following year, you need to prepare relevant information before leaving the country. If you have used the qualified rent subsidy, you need to collect the rent invoice, lease contract and other information before leaving the country, so as to handle the personal settlement from March to June of the following year. Provide supporting documents to the tax office.

Personal Income Tax Payment Certificate

Since you may be required to provide proof of income and tax payment during your work in China when you pay your own personal income tax in your own country or work in a third country, it is recommended that you obtain proof of tax payment during your work in China before leaving China.

Transfer Money to A Foreign Account

Due to foreign exchange control, when you transfer wages and salaries obtained in China to a foreign bank account, the bank usually requires you to provide personal income tax certificate, labor contract, work permit and other materials. If you have other income, please consult the bank specifically about what information you need.

If there is no need to receive other expenses in the future (such as social security refund, housing fund refund and government subsidies), the bank card can be cancelled at the same time.

Disassociated Your Phone Number

Your phone number in China is only the most important information you can get when activating or using apps like Alipay or WeChat at your bank. If you do not cancel your phone number before leaving China, you may run into problems, especially if it is associated with your passport number.

On the other hand, forgetting to cancel or disassociate your phone number with your WeChat ID can be risky. If your phone bill is not paid for six months, it will be registered as a new number and others will be able to log in to your WeChat. Cancelling your phone number also means deleting your Alipay account. Since Alipay contains all your payment transactions or card information, it is also important to deal with it before you leave.

Please note: If you are eligible to apply for the personal income tax subsidy for high-end foreign talents in the Greater Bay Area please do not cancel your bank card and mobile phone SIM card, because the application time for subsidies is the end of the next year. If you have cancelled the mobile phone SIM card and bank card after returning home, you will not be able to apply.

Cancel Phone SIM Card

Cancelling your SIM card when you leave China may not seem very important, but if you want to return to China in the future and get a new one, you must not forget. If the SIM card is not cancelled, it will continue to be charged by the Chinese provider. In addition, after 90 days, the provider will take back the number and blacklist you. This will cause problems for you to apply for a new SIM card later.

Off-lease Procedure

Before leaving China, foreigners need to communicate with the landlord to handle the rental deposit or get reimbursement of housing subsidies from your company. Due to the visa time, it is better to plan in advance.

Cancel Broadband

For all broadband services, if you no longer use them, need to bring your passport and internet device to the business hall to cancel your account before leaving China. Otherwise, there will be further fees incurred. If you do not actively cancel your account, the customer will bear the expenses incurred.
