In traditional Cantonese “Yum Cha” (morning tea) culture, people usually order a cup of tea and two dishes of dim sum. Other than drinking tea in a traditional dim sum restaurant, there are many trendy coffee shops that provide more options for coffee lovers in Liwan District, Guangzhou.

This is Episode Two of Liwan Coffee Map, in which we will continue to explore newfangled coffee shops on Enning Road.

Highway Wang (Yongqing Fang Store)—— A fancy and eye-catching orange jeep car

Add.:Ground Floor, Xuanxiang Building, Enning Road, Liwan District

Time: 10:00-22:00

Highway Wang is a fancy orange jeep car attracting both fashionable youngsters and older people on their way to grocery stores when walking under the arcade.

The store is decorated with scattered wooden posts, alternating camping chairs and bamboo stools, and flickering lights, creating an illusion of camping in the forest.

A cup of floral coffee is suitable in this sense.

The ingredients for Osmanthus Latte include hand-made osmanthus dew, osmanthus paste, and dried osmanthus. A light-baked espresso blend is used to highlight the floral aroma. Oat milk is added in place of regular milk to prevent the fresh osmanthus fragrance from being masked by milk fragrance.

C. Here——A four-floor detached house with Chinese filter

Add.: No.3, Floor 1, Zhibaodajie, Enning Road, Liwan District

Time: 12:00-21:30

It is easy to get lost in Yongqing Fang’s garden landscape. However, if you walk toward the Cantonese Opera Art Museum, you won’t miss C.Here.

C. Here is a four-storey detached house. There is a Chinese courtyard on the first floor and open space on the second and third floors. Customers can enjoy the stunning view of Yongqing Fang on the fourth floor and take striking pictures.

There is a variety of choices on the menu. There are even multiple flavours of Dirty to order. Pistachio Dirty is a best-seller made from Colombia and Yunnan espresso blend and pistachio jam, creating a creamy, nutty flavour.

Peach Lady is a good option if you prefer a refreshing flavour.

With a sweet milk fragrance, the drink combines espresso, peach juice, and jasmine tea, creating a refreshing flavour with a floral and fruity taste that fits the spring season’s sweetness.

Ⅱ Sok Cafe—— Coffee + dim sum, a new style of “one cup and two dishes.”

Add.:No. 21, Enning Road, Liwan District

Time:Monday to Friday 11:00-19:00, Saturday to Sunday 11:00-20:00

If you have been to Ⅱ Sok Cafe, you will be shocked by the dim sum trolleys and wonder whether it is really a coffee shop.

In this cafe, you can order coffee as well as Cantonese dim sum, including egg tarts with 368 layers of pastry, a fist-sized shrimp dumpling, and a new style of black truffle ink Sui Mai. The steamed dumplings have a classic juicy pork and prawn filling, enclosed with wonton wrappers. These are regular dim sum when having morning tea but more elaborate than traditional ones.

The best mate of dim sum is the most refreshing coffee, YEEZY. The drink is made from a lemon fragrance deep-baked espresso blend, thick coconut milk, and multicoloured coconut paste. It only brings you a light coconut aroma instead of tasting saccharine when drinking it.

It’s really leisurely to have egg tarts and drink coffee while watching people come and go, and chat with tourists and neighbours about the latest scenic spot and discount information.

Shining—— Hinding in a quiet corner of the old town

Add.:No.37 Xianjixi, Liwan District

Time: Monday to Thursday 11:00-18:30, Friday to Sunday 11:00-20:30

Leave Enning Road and head to the east. When going deep into the narrow streets of Liwan’s old town, the bustle of the scenic spot gradually fades away, and you will witness ordinary people’s life in Liwan.

The next destination is Shining, a fashion place with all elements youngsters would love, including coffee, streetwear, vinyl, and cycling.

The Chinese name of the coffee shop is “Shanxing,” not only because it is located on Shanxingli Street but also “doing one good thing per day.” Therefore, Shining sometimes holds charity sales.

There is little space on the two floors, with only a few booths for the guests. People feel more comfortable sitting by the spacious street. It is common to see customers buying a dish of chopped roast goose from Yongxing and coming to order a cup of coffee.

The seasonal special on the current menu is the star product you don’t want to miss.

The base of the drink is star fruit juice and jasmine tea, setting the refreshing tone, and the sparkling water is infused with a thrilling freshness. The sweetness of the fruit is still palpable after being drizzled into the tropical fruity espresso.

Drinking coffee made from star fruit always reminds me of the lyric, “Will you miss me when watching the stars in the sky?”
