On August 7, about 180 teenagers and their parents from Guangzhou and Macao gathered in Parc Pearl River Piano Cultural Park, Guangzhou's Liwan District to experience a 2-day trip of intangible cultural heritage exchange. They visited and experienced wood carving, Canton porcelain, Canton embroidery, and Canton Tea Art.

Liwan Intangible Cultural Heritage Cluster gathered over 20 intangible cultural heritage master studios. Artists design, create and display their artworks for people to experience the charm of Lingnan culture and intangible cultural heritage.

Macao teenagers and their parents learned how to roast tea at the Canton Tea Art Inheritance Base. They rubbed and roasted the tea with gloves on. A 10-year-old kid named Chen Nuoen who grew up in Macao, participated in this kind of event in Guangzhou for the first time. Chen said, "Roasting tea is an exciting experience. It's not as hot as I thought when roasting it on the stove. I would never have learned this process if I hadn't come to the event. Seeing multiple intangible heritage projects clustered in this area is very impressive."

Tang Jinquan, the representative inheritor of wood carving, a provincial intangible cultural heritage in Guangzhou, led the students to assemble a wood carving craft. Tang introduced that the door of a Xiguan mansion consists of three doors: "The first is a screen door, which is light thus easy to close and open like two window sashes. It can prevent people from seeing inside. The second door is the most distinctive, the Tanglong door, and it is a large wooden frame with a dozen logs in the middle. Only the third door is the real door."

A teenager from Macao who experienced Canton embroidery said, "I learned that Canton embroidery is one of the four famous embroideries in China and an important commodity in ancient China's maritime trade. It seems I travel back to ancient China through these hands-on experiences. I can't wait to share today's experience with my friends and relatives."

Another Macao teenager said, "The urban development of Guangzhou makes me realize that Guangzhou and Macao share the same origin." He said, "I have a better idea about the importance of cultural inheritance through the event. I hope I will still be granted the chance to appreciate the diverse culture of China."

A spokesperson from Liwan District said, "The event aims to provide a platform for young people from both Guangzhou and Macao to make friends by learning intangible cultural heritage together and building a sense of cultural identity. We hope they will work together to build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) a better place in the future."
