A voluntary tree-planting event was held on March 12th in Liwan District, Guangzhou, with about 500 participants taking part in it. The main venue was at the Hailongwei Science and Technology Innovation Zone (海龙围科创区), with a branch venue at the pocket park on Xiwan Road (西湾路).
The event incorporated the Lingnan climate characteristics with Liwan's cultural features, and a total of 121 trees, such as Bauhinia variegata and Tabebuia impetiginosa, were planted.
Liwan has added 158 community parks in recent years
During March, Liwan District set up multiple tree-planting sites, including Guanggang Park (广钢公园), Hailongwei Science and Technology Innovation Zone (海龙围科创区), and the pocket parkat Xiwan Road (西湾路). The district also established grassroots forest chief practice bases, with 1,757 participants planting a total of 712 seedlings.
In recent years, Liwan District has developed a total of 158 parks, including 16 pocket parks and community parks, increasing the urban green space by over 155,000 square meters.
In 2024, Liwan will continue to combine urban renewal with road construction and enhance the green space area, with the goal of increasing urban parkland by 420,000 square meters in five years.
Through projects such as constructing one urban park, one community park, one old tree park, one small wetland, and six pocket parks, the district aims to add over 80,000 square meters of urban parkland in 2024.
55,000 forest chiefs at all levels patrol across the district
In 2023, Liwan completed the registration of 180 old trees as valuable resources, conducted 31 voluntary tree-planting events, and planted over 2,100 new trees across the district. District-level forest chiefs conducted 64 patrols. A total of 55,000 forest chiefs at all levels patrol across the district.
In addition, Liwan organized 8 events and 47 forest chief publicity activities, distributing nearly 70,000 copies of posters, promotional bags, and greenery regulations to enhance public awareness and participation in greening initiatives.
